ELIGIBILITY

The festival is non-competitive and all sections are curated by a programming committee. All submissions are fully considered and the selection of the programming committee is final.

To be eligible for submission to all sections of the festival, except for the Injerto section, the minimum duration for all works is 50 minutes. Short, mid-length and feature length documentaries will be considered for the Injerto section. To be eligible for the Official Section, documentaries must be Mexican premieres, or must not have participated in more than one festival in Mexico prior to Ambulante.

To be eligible for the Official Section, documentaries submitted must have been completed in 2008 and 2009.

There are no requirements for the subject matter of the entries. Nevertheless, there will be a special selection of documentaries with subjects such as freedom of expression, sustainability, environmental issues, human rights, marginalized groups and social justice.

Creativity and innovation in form and content will be considered during the selection process.

SUBMISSIONS PROCEDURE

Ambulante is open to receive submissions to be considered for Ambulante 2010 from June 1st to September 1st, 2009.

To submit a film, please fill out the entry form available at the website www.ambulante.com.mx, and send it as an attachment to meghan@ambulante.com.mx. A DVD of the documentary (any region and format) properly marked with the title, director, length and year of production must be sent to the following address:

None of the above materials will be returned. Do not send film prints, master tapes or other originals.

SELECTION AND DELIVERY OF EXHIBITION MATERIALS

Once the selection process has ended, the festival will contact the participants, who must agree to the following conditions regarding the sending of material and its exhibition:

Upon selection, a documentary must not be withdrawn before its screening in Ambulante.

Copies of documentaries that are not selected will not be returned unless specifically requested.

The programming committee will establish the order and dates of exhibition of each documentary, as well as the section in which the film will be presented, and will include this information in the official invitation letter.

The format for exhibition is Blu-Ray and DVD depending on the section. Ambulante will accept Betacam SP (NTSC or PAL), Digibeta (NTSC or PAL), Mini DV, HDCAM and DVCAM and will cover the costs for transfer to Blu Ray or DVD depending on the section.  (Please do not send the master, Ambulante will not be responsible for damage or loss of master copies.)

Upon selection, the following materials must be sent by October 16th

  • 3 film stills (color, 300 dpi, jpg or tiff)
  • Director’s photo (color, 300dpi, jpg or tiff)
  • Promotional material (presskit, posters, etc. optional)
  • Trailer (optional)
  • Dialogue list or script with time code in English or Spanish (in case original language is not Spanish)
  • Screener copy of the documentary without subtitles, unless they are in Spanish
  • Director’s contact information

Ambulante reserves the right to use up to three minutes from the documentary and other publicity material for festival promotional broadcasting purposes and Ambulante related websites in Mexico.

It is of utmost importance that the copies are packed adequately in order to avoid damage.

When filling in shipment or customs forms, please assign the package a value that does not exceed 10 USD and indicate the following: “For cultural purposes within a festival.”  The sender must provide Ambulante with the guide number and shipping information.

All shipping expenses to the festival are to be paid by the entrants.

Ambulante will cover the expenses of the return of the copies, in case they may not be picked up at the festival headquarters.

The copies will be returned no later than 60 days after the end of the festival. The deadline for any claims and complaints regarding the copies is 90 days after their return. Ambulante will retain one copy of each film presented for archival pruposes.

EXHIBITION

Screenings will take place in Cinepolis theaters and additional locations previously specified.

The ticket price for documentaries screened in Cinepolis is $35 MXN. Documentaries belonging to the Official Section and Sonidero will be screened in Cinepolis.

All other sections will be screened in parallel venues at no charge unless previously specified.

For the films screened in Cinepolis, Ambulante shall pay to the holder as total remuneration, directly or through a third party, the equivalent to 35% (thirty five percent) of Ambulante’s participation in the net income obtained at the box office.

The programming committee will determine the screening fee for the documentaries included in all other sections that we screened at no charge.
